What does Roof Experts have to do with BMX? Turns out, even outdoor enthusiasts need a roof over their heads once in a while! The DeSoto BMX park was in need of new roofing over its concession area and bathrooms. We were more than happy to help! We had to consider a lot of factors when roofing this area. What is the weather like in this area? How much time and funding is being put into the project? Can we match the aesthetic quality of the rest of the building? DeSoto BMX Park – About the Project
DeSoto BMX Park has been a community fixture for 25 years! It boasts one of the first and largest fully covered tracks in the US. Hosting thousands of cyclists every year, this local business makes great contributions to the DeSoto economy. The DeSoto BMX park is a welcoming place for beginners and professionals alike. So when their customer-centered concession and bathroom area needed re-roofing, they gave us a call! We were thrilled to work with the city of DeSoto, known for its active and helpful community.
The Challenges of DeSoto BMX Park
Okay so that’s a faulty title! This project was so fulfilling and working with the city of DeSoto was a breeze. They were communicative and helpful throughout the whole project! We have worked with many other city and government properties so our familiarity with the process really moved the project along. We were happy to follow all necessary governmental procedures. Working on this community project that serves so many families and residents was a real honor!

Choosing Materials
When selecting materials for this roof we needed to consider a few things:
- What’s the weather like?
- What’s the use of this building?
- What does the rest of the roof look like?
- What is the client’s priority?
The weather in DeSoto is all over the map! Being so close to Dallas means they share the same wild weather. Winters can see sudden freezes and snowfall while summers experience heat waves and tornado-bringing storms. This building is slightly different because so much of it is open air. The portion we roofed was fully enclosed but had to blend seamlessly with the functino of the rest of the building. We love a metal roof! The other portion of the BMX park was roofed in standing seam metal, a highly durable and beautiful choice. So for this project, we ultimately decided to use Polyfresko Polyglass G because it’s exceeds most standards for cool roofing (so long, heat!). We paired this with Polyglass 2 Ply Modified Roofing with bright white cap sheet. This roofing system is much thicker and durable than TPO. We also used GAF ISO to ensure thermal insulation, Metal Caps to avoid water intrusion, and flashing membranes for an additional layer of protection. Finishing off we used GAF gutter and downspout’s to complete the entire roofing system! Looks like we nailed it in terms of weather, use, aesthetics, and the client’s need for durability!
