Roof Repair Humble TX

Harris County's hail does not arrive on a schedule. Across the eleven years from 2015 through 2025 the record shows fifty distinct hail days — but nine of them fell in 2024 and not one fell in the whole of 2022. That lumpiness matters for a repair, because damage from a heavy year sits on a roof for seasons before it leaks, and by then everyone has forgotten which storm did it. We date what we find.

shield

Hail bruising and granule loss

A bruise fractures the shingle mat under a surface that still looks intact and shows up as a leak years later. On a 1980s Humble roof that is often the difference between another five years and a failure next spring. We chalk what we find and tie it to a dated event in the county record rather than to hail season in general.

drop

Leak tracing

Water gets in one place and shows up somewhere else. We work backwards from the stain through penetrations, valley terminations, step flashing, wall tie-ins and nail pops before anyone suggests tearing anything off. On a roof this age the answer is usually a detail, not the field.

check

Flashing, valleys and penetrations

Rusted valley metal, face-nailed counterflashing, split pipe boots, chimney pans that were never right. On Humble's older stock these are where the repeat leaks live, and they get replaced with new material rather than sealed over with mastic that buys one Gulf Coast summer.

home

Wind-lifted and creased shingles

A shingle that lifted and laid back down has a broken sealant strip and will take the next gust. Uplift starts at the rake and the ridge, so that is where we check by hand, and we mark the creases so you can see exactly what we are calling before anything is replaced.

badge

A registered contractor, inside the city

If your home is inside the Humble city limits, whoever works on it is supposed to hold a current City of Humble registration — which requires workers' compensation as well as liability naming the city as certificate holder. Ours is current. Outside the city there is no such requirement, which is exactly why it is worth asking.

file

Documentation for a claim

Dated photographs, a written scope in the order the work has to happen, and the storm date it ties to. That file is yours whether you use us for the repair or not. We do not file your claim and we do not tell you what your policy owes.

Our process

Four steps from first call to finished.

01

Somebody gets on the roof

We photograph the damage, the visible deck condition and the areas that are fine — that last part is what keeps a repair a repair, and it is what most estimates leave out.

02

The honest split

Repair, partial or replacement, with the reason for each. On a Humble roof the deciding factors are age and mat condition — four in five homes here predate 2000 — whether decking took a hit, and whether the damage is one detail or the whole field.

03

Permit where a permit applies

Inside the city limits a re-roof is filed as a Residential Building Permit; a small repair may not reach that threshold and we confirm with the Building Department at (281) 446-6228 rather than guessing. Outside the city there is nothing to pull, and we will say so plainly.

04

Repair, clean, walk it

Debris hauled, magnet sweep of the drive and beds, and a walk of the finished work with you. If the repair ties to a storm date, the closing photographs go into your file.

Roof types we work on

Asphalt, metal, tile, slate, shake — we know it all.

Matching architectural asphalt
Most Humble repairs

Matching architectural asphalt

The hard part of an asphalt repair is the match, and on a roof from the 1980s build-out the original profile is long discontinued. We tell you up front whether the patch will blend or read as a patch from the street rather than letting you discover it afterwards.

Color and profile matched to the existing field where stock allowsSealant strips hand-sealed at the repair perimeterAny soft or split decking replaced rather than shingled over
Boots, vents and penetrations
The common failure

Boots, vents and penetrations

Plumbing vent boots, turbine and box vent flashings and step flashing at wall tie-ins fail long before the field does on roofs of this vintage. Correcting all of them rather than only the one that leaked is usually the highest-value repair available on an older Humble roof.

Boots sized to the pipe rather than stretched over itWhole-roof penetration audit rather than a single fixVent flashings reset properly rather than caulked
New metal, not sealant
Metal and flashing

New metal, not sealant

Valley metal, counterflashing, drip edge and chimney pans get replaced when they have failed. Sealant is a finish detail on a correctly built joint, never the joint itself.

Counterflashing reglet-cut or properly lapped, not face-nailedValley metal replaced full length instead of spliced at the damageStep flashing rebuilt at wall tie-ins rather than sealed over

2 yryr

Workmanship on the repair

Our labor on the area we repaired. If it leaks, we come back. That is the whole of it, and it is in writing before you sign anything.

Mfr.yr

Material warranty in your name

Any shingle, underlayment or metal we install carries its own manufacturer warranty. We hand you the documentation rather than restating the manufacturer's terms as if they were ours.

Writtenyr

A scope you can hold us to

Every repair leaves with a written scope of what was replaced and what was deliberately left alone. If a second opinion disagrees with us later, you have the document to argue from.

Roof Repair Humble TX FAQ

Common questions about this service.

Don't see your question? Call us at (469) 936-7663 — we're happy to talk it through.

Do I need a permit for a roof repair? +

It depends where you are and how large the job is. Inside the Humble city limits a re-roof is filed as a Residential Building Permit — the city has no separate roofing category — and a small repair may fall below that. We confirm with the Building Department at (281) 446-6228 rather than assume, because the city doubles all required permit fees for work performed before issuance. If your address is in unincorporated Harris County there is no county re-roof permit at all.

Should I repair or replace? +

Three things decide it, and in Humble age weighs heavily. 81.8% of the housing inside the city predates 2000 and the peak decade is the 1980s, so a great many roofs here are on their third covering. If lifting one shingle to slide a new one under it breaks its neighbors, a repair keeps growing. If decking took a hit, that has to be right regardless. And the fourth leak in three years on one slope is a replacement being paid for in installments.

There was bad hail a couple of years ago. Could my roof still have damage? +

Very likely, and the record explains why people forget. Harris County logged nine hail days in 2024 and eight in each of 2016 and 2023, then none at all in 2022. Damage from a heavy year sits on a roof through several seasons before the mat fails and water finds its way in — by which time nobody remembers which storm did it. If your roof has not been looked at since 2024, it is worth a look.

When does hail actually fall here? +

April and May, overwhelmingly. Across the county's 157 hail reports from 2015 to 2025, April accounts for 46 and May for 44 — 57% between them — with March at 27 and June at 21. There are no reports at all in February, September, October or November, and only a handful in January, July, August and December. So an autumn inspection catches a year's worth of damage before winter rain finds it.

How big does the hail get? +

The largest stone in the eleven-year county record is 2.75 inches — baseball size — reported near Highway 249 and Boudreaux Road south of Tomball on 19 April 2015. Behind it are two tennis-ball reports, at Bellaire in January 2016 and in May 2019. Most of what falls here is an inch to two inches, which is enough to bruise and strip an aging roof without being obvious from the driveway.

A tree limb came down on the roof. What first? +

Get everyone out from under the opening, cut power to the area if water is near wiring, and call for a dry-in. We do not cut trees off structures — that is a tree service with proper rigging, and doing it badly turns a roof repair into a framing rebuild. We tarp what can safely be tarped, photograph everything for your file, and scope the permanent repair once the limb is clear.

When can you work? +

Seven in the morning to ten at night, in practice. Humble prohibits construction work between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., but a separate section bars pneumatic hammers, hoists and similar appliances until 7:00 a.m. Since a roofing crew runs compressors and nail guns, 7:00 a.m. is the safe start and that is what we keep to. There is no Sunday or holiday restriction in the ordinance.

Will you deal with my insurance company? +

We document thoroughly — dated photographs, a written scope, the storm date it ties to — and we will be on the roof while your adjuster is, so you are both looking at the same damage at the same time. We do not file the claim, negotiate with your carrier or tell you what your policy owes. That is between you and your adjuster, and a roofer who says otherwise is doing you no favors.
