Hutto's hail is frequent rather than spectacular, and that distinction matters when you are deciding between a repair and a replacement. The city's own in-town reports top out at two inches — golf-ball hail on the east side on 30 May 2024. The three- and four-inch stones that made the news landed at Round Rock, Georgetown, Coupland and Leander, not here. What Hutto has had is three hail springs in four years, and a lot of roofs carrying moderate damage that is worth repairing properly rather than replacing on a sales call.

Water gets in one place and shows up somewhere else. We work backwards from the stain through penetrations, valley terminations, step flashing, wall tie-ins and nail pops before anyone suggests tearing anything off. On a twenty-year-old Hutto roof the answer is often a boot or a flashing rather than the field.
A bruise fractures the shingle mat under an intact surface and shows up as a leak years later. We chalk what we find so you can see the pattern yourself, and we tie it to a dated event — 30 May 2024, 30 April 2025, 30 April 2022 — rather than a general reference to hail season.
On the 2000s production roofs that dominate Hutto, the rubber collar on a plumbing vent boot usually fails well before the shingles do. A whole-roof penetration audit and a handful of new boots buys years on a sound roof for a fraction of a replacement.
A shingle that lifted and laid back down has a broken sealant strip and will take the next gust. We check the rake and ridge lines by hand and mark the creases so you can see exactly what we are calling before anything is replaced.
Dated photographs, a written scope in the order the work has to happen, and the storm date it ties to. That file is yours whether you use us for the repair or not. We do not file your claim and we do not tell you what your policy owes.
Hutto writes jobsite conduct into its building code: contained debris, a clear unobstructed access path, erosion control and OSHA-conforming fall protection for the duration of the permit. We work to that on a repair the same as on a replacement.
We photograph the damage, the visible deck condition and the areas that are fine — that last part is what keeps a repair a repair, and it is what most estimates leave out.
Repair, partial or replacement, with the reason for each. On a Hutto roof the deciding factors are boot and flashing condition, whether the shingle mat is still flexible, and whether a storm did anything across the field rather than at one detail.
Hutto's adopted code does not exempt roof covering replacement — the amended exemption section changed only the sidewalk item. Its public FAQ lists the most common permit types and does not mention roofing, but that is an omission rather than an exemption. We confirm with Building Inspections at (512) 759-5973, and it matters because fees double if work starts before a required permit issues.
Contained debris out to the Williamson County Landfill on Landfill Road, magnet sweep of the drive and beds, and a walk of the finished work with you. If the repair ties to a storm date, the closing photographs go into your file.
The hard part of an asphalt repair is the match. On a 2004 roof the original line may be discontinued, and we will tell you up front whether the patch will blend or whether it will read as a patch from the street rather than letting you discover it afterwards.
Plumbing vent boots, turbine and box vent flashings, and step flashing at wall tie-ins are where production roofs from the 2000s fail first. Correcting all of them rather than just the one that leaked is usually the highest-value repair available on a Hutto roof.
Valley metal, counterflashing, drip edge and chimney pans get replaced when they have failed. Sealant is a finish detail on a correctly built joint, never the joint itself — a bead of mastic buys one Central Texas summer.
Our labor on the area we repaired. If it leaks, we come back. That is the whole of it, and it is in writing before you sign anything.
Any shingle, underlayment or metal we install carries its own manufacturer warranty. We hand you the documentation rather than restating the manufacturer's terms as if they were ours.
Every repair leaves with a written scope of what was replaced and what was deliberately left alone. If a second opinion disagrees with us later, you have the document to argue from.

Less likely than in some neighboring towns, and it is worth knowing the difference. Hutto's own in-town hail reports top out at two inches — golf ball, on the east side of town on 30 May 2024. Williamson County's genuinely destructive stones, three and four inches, fell at Round Rock, Georgetown, Coupland and Leander. That does not mean your roof is fine; moderate hail on a twenty-year-old shingle can absolutely finish it. It means the claim should rest on what is actually on your roof, photographed, rather than on a headline about a storm that missed you.
For a full covering replacement, the adopted code says yes — Hutto amended the permit-exemption section and did not add roofing to it. For a small repair the question is narrower, and Hutto's published FAQ does not address roofing either way. We confirm with Building Inspections at (512) 759-5973 rather than assume, because the fee schedule and the city's website both state that permit fees double where work begins before a required permit issues, and a stop work order may follow.
Three things decide it. Boot and flashing condition — if the shingles are sound and the penetrations are not, that is a cheap repair with real value. Mat condition — if lifting one shingle breaks its neighbors, the repair keeps growing. And field damage — dated, photographable hail or wind damage across the roof is a different conversation from a leak at one pipe. On a 2005 Hutto roof the honest answer is often somewhere in between, and we will show you the photographs rather than assert it.
Often enough to matter. Hutto-named reports in the eleven-year record cluster in three springs: 30 April 2022 with three reports topping at 1.75 inches, 30 May 2024 with golf-ball hail on the east side, and 2025 with reports on 15 March, 22 April and 30 April. 2025 was Williamson County's most active hail year in the whole record at ten hail days. What Hutto has is frequency rather than extremity.
No. Hutto is the one city around here that answers the question outright: its Table R301.2 insert reads Ice Barrier Underlayment Required: No. It sits alongside ground snow load 5, seismic design category A, negligible weathering, frost line depth 12, termite moderate to heavy, and mean annual temperature 69.4. If a proposal you are comparing includes ice-and-water shield across the whole field as a code requirement, that is a choice rather than an obligation here.
Get everyone out from under the opening, cut power to the area if water is near wiring, and call for a dry-in. We do not cut trees off structures — that is a tree service with proper rigging, and doing it badly turns a roof repair into a framing rebuild. We tarp what can safely be tarped, photograph everything for your file, and scope the permanent repair once the limb is clear.
No. Hutto states plainly that construction materials will not be picked up at curbside, and bulk pickup is capped at 18 cubic feet or 18 bags — which even a small tear-off exceeds. Hutto's adopted building code separately requires debris to be contained in a dumpster, roll-off, OSB temporary dumpster or a mesh enclosure a four-inch sphere cannot pass through, with the owner and contractor both responsible for preventing blow-out. Ours goes to the Williamson County Landfill on Landfill Road, which is conveniently inside Hutto.
We document thoroughly — dated photographs, a written scope, the storm date it ties to — and we will be on the roof while your adjuster is, so you are both looking at the same damage at the same time. We do not file the claim, negotiate with your carrier or tell you what your policy owes. That is between you and your adjuster, and a roofer who says otherwise is doing you no favors.
Free inspection, honest scope, real warranty. Most service work scheduled within 24–48 hours.
