Cold Weather House Prep
We know this week has swept the US with literally freezing temperatures. We hope you all have stayed bundled and your roofs and pipes are doing well! Here, we’ll discuss some ways you can engage in some cold weather house prep for your next arctic chill. Because there’s some roofing rules you may not be aware of!
Cold Weather Bad News
- We can’t fix your roof in cold weather.
- In fact, no roofer can! Don’t hold it against us! In fact, don’t let a roofer tell you they can get the job done in cold weather. Due to the makeup of roofing adhesives, they will not properly hold in temperatures below 45 degrees. They require warmth to fully bond the materials together. So make sure your roofer has your repairs or replacement scheduled in warm weather. If they insist when it’s cold, run away!
- You probably have a lot more water sources at home than you thought.
- Everyone always hears to drip your faucets. So you probably go around to your kitchen and bathroom sinks and go about your merry way. Do you have a yard? Does that yard have a hose? Or 2? How about a sprinkler system? Don’t forget about all the ways you use water in your home!
- Insulation is key.
- This is bad news because you may only be thinking of your walls. They are likely insulated! But how about your attic, crawl space, windows, and garage door. Insulating all of these spaces is a great idea to not only keep your home warmer, but also keeps your heating bills down.
Cold Weather Home Prep Good News
- Inspections!
- While we can’t do repairs, we can do inspections! We are fully equipped with AI drone inspection technology so we are only on your roof when absolutely necessary! Using drones allows us to retrieve all the necessary information without stepping foot onto your roof.
- You don’t need a pro to keep your pipes safe.
- There are a lot of products made to keep your home’s pipes safe. If you live somewhere that is freezing for most of the winter, these products are meant for you. If you’re like us, and your winter only SOMETIMES freezes, you can do these things yourself! Drip the necessary faucets and you can now use that old pool noodle for something other than a summer jousting match.
- Anything can be insulation!
- The insulation in your walls is crucial. It’s very important that it’s applied by a professional. For your windows, garage door, attic, and crawl space, these areas can be insulated temporarily with many household or easily-found products from the hardware store.
