Skylight Inspiration

You may have recently gotten the news that your roof is in need of major repairs or a full replacement. Instead of this being upsetting news, think of the possibilities! This could be the time that you add a beautiful skylight to your home. The amount of light they provide is second to none. While you’re at it, you can call our friends at Mayer Solar for a quote. Get all the benefits of the sun’s rays while still enjoying your home or business. Let’s go over some reasons why you should consider a skylight. Let’s also ooh and ahh over some beautiful examples.

Residential Skylights

Residential skylights are often a sore topic for homeowners. Many individuals believe skylights are a weak point that is prone to leaks and wear. Good news! Not only are skylights strong and sturdy, they are included in Roof Experts’ regular maintenance. Don’t let the possibility of a leak steer you away from the incredible benefits of a skylight. Did you know there are multiple styles? So you can choose the best version for your home- its structure and aesthetics.

  • Fixed: Probably the skylight style you think of immediately. Your neighbor may have had these in their groovy 1970s home. They’re installed in the roofing and remain as is. They can be installed in a wide variety of sizes and shapes in order to suit your home the best.
  • Vented: A vented skylight is just what it sounds like. It opens up! These are great for attic spaces that have been renovated into living areas. They allow lots of light to come in and allow the resident to open it up like a window.
  • Tubular: Yep, just like a gnarly wave. Tube skylights, sometimes called light tubes, concentrate the sun’s rays into a tube lined with reflective material. These look similar to recessed lighting and make for excellent task lights in a north-south facing room that doesn’t get lots of natural light.

Commercial Skylights

Commercial skylights provide free lighting to your business. How great is that? With a properly installed industrial skylight, you can decrease your electric bill! Commercial skylights are most often of the fixed variety, varying mostly in shape.

  • Dome: These skylights have a rounded shape and have the little to block the view. The shape of the dome comes from the material itself, not from any structural metals. Because curved glass can exacerbate heat, you will often find domed skylights made of plastic or synthetic materials.
  • Pyramid: Imagine the pyramid in front of the Louvre, now shrink it down about a hundred times. The pyramid shape is supported by metal structure in order to give it its shape.
  • Vault: Another option that ties into a vaulted ceiling and doesn’t require a flat space.

Now Let’s Ooh and Aah
